Scout Strategies
The scout is the fastest unit in Team Fortress, but it is also one of the weakest units in Team Fortress 2.
The primary function of the scout is to rush through the enemy lines and quickly capture the flag or control points; this is why the scout has lightning fast speed and the ability to double jump. For example; Scouts can jump on top of the bridge in 2fort with ease using the double jump, whereas other units have to defend on ammunition like rockets or grenades, which damage the player. Scouts can jump to the top of the bridge without taking any damage, run across, and jump onto the enemies battlements in a very fluid, very fast motion and avoid the most common sentry gun places (the ramp room).
Lets take a look at the Scouts weaponry.
Scatter Gun
The scatter gun is the primary weapon of the Scout. It's called the scatter gun, but it is basically a sawed off shotgun. Deadly at close range, but inaccurate if you aren't right on your opponent. Keep running and jumping when fighting your enemy; keep circle strafing (using the A and D keys to circle your opponent while firing). The Scouts speed makes it easy to literally run circles around your enemy while killing them; it is hard to keep your eyes on the scout at close range.
The Pistol
You want to stick to the scatter gun most of the time; but the pistol is a good alternative if you run out of ammo for the scatter gun. It also has more range than the scatter gun, so feel free to use it while you are on the bridge approaching your enemies, then quick switch to your scatter gun.
Baseball Bat
The baseball bat is very useful, and very deadly. Because of the scouts speed, wait for your opponents to reload. You can usually run up to them and kill them depending on how close you are before they have a chance to squeeze off another round. For example, if you are on the sniper deck; normally snipers will try to retreat to the respawns while firing. Hide in the pill box; keep stepping out and stepping back while they fire, once they reload, run out at them and go to town on them with the bat.
Advanced Strategies
Make no mistake about it; Scouts are weak, but they can be very deadly. In the right hands, a Scout can take down anything in its path. I have seen Scouts take down numerous Heavy Weapons Guys without pausing. It's about using your speed and range to your advantage.
