Medic Strategies

The Medic is one of the best classes for new players. Playing as a medic lets you learn the game, learn maps, and see how the game works while still being helpful.

But even experienced players can still be medics because teams need medics.

The Medic is a pure support class. The game recognizes this, and rewards Medics for it. If you are healing a player when they kill someone, you get a point, too. Otherwise Medics would get nothing.

Medics also have one really cool ability; regeneration! If you get hurt in the line of duty as a Medic, find a place to take cover and your health will regenerate. Similar to the shields in most modern FPS games like Halo, your health will regenerate little by little while you don't take any more damage.

And while Medics aren't meant for combat, they do have weaponry. Let's look at them.

...teams need medics...

The Syringe Pistol

The syringe pistol (or HIV/herpes gun, as its lovingly called) is a very deadly gun once you learn how to use it.

The syringe pistol, similar to the pyro's flamethrower, has a very unique negative effect; it has range. When you fire the syringe pistol, the syringes will drop gradually over distance, and always drop at the same place. So if you fire your entire clip without moving, they will drop at the same place. Think of it like water coming from a water hose.

Because of this, you need to aim up a little above your target. Once you get the hang of this, you can really deal damage to your target.

The syringe gun can still be deadly at long range; you just have to compensate for the range drop. Even at mid-range though, most people have problems using the syringe pistol.

When you are close range, you will really kill people using the syringe pistol though. It is extremely deadly at any range once you learn the tricks to it.

The Medigun

The Medi Gun is your secondary gun, and the gun you use to heal team mates. You can heal teammates to over 100% using it, as well.

As a Medic, you probably noticed the little bar graph in the bottom right of your HUD. Oddly, it isn't labeled. This is your uber charge meter. Once it is full, right click and you and whoever you are healing will become invincible for 10 seconds.

When you are uber, people can tell you are uber because you glow your teams color. When the uber charge starts to end, you will blink. Most players will wait until this period, then rush you; so be prepared.

Also you can uber anyone, but it's only really in your best interests to uber Heavy Weapons Guys, Soldiers or Pyros.

Oh and don't just sit around and heal HWGuys. You are a team medic; heal everyone. If someone comes up to you on fire yelling MEDIC! over and over; heal them. When you heal them, you will extinguish the flame. If you ignore them and keep healing the HWGuy, they will burn to death.

Even stopping for 2 seconds could extinguish the flame so they could be alive long enough to go to a respawn room and get health; but if you don't help them, they will die and be out of the fight longer. So don't be a fatty chaser; heal your team mates.

Bone Saw

This is best left to when you run out of ammo but the Medic runs fairly fast, so you can survive some encounters if you resort to wildly swinging the bonesaw and running away.
