Heavy Weapons Guy Strategies

The heavy weapons guy is the strongest class in Team Fortress. Nearly indestructable with 300HP, he is hard to take down in a 1 on 1 fight as certain classes.

Your opponents have to depend on your weaknesses to take you out; your low maneuverability, slow reaction speeds and slow movement speeds.

You are vulnerable to a lot, but your high health will keep you alive through a lot of fire so that is your main advantage.

...know when to quit...

The key to being a good HWGuy is knowing when to quit. Even at close range fire, a Heavy Weapons Guy can win most battles without a medic. However once you at 1/3 health, you should retreat and get more health; be it from a respawn room or a medic. Keep an eye on your ammo the same way. If you have made 2 health runs on the bridge getting healed by a medic in the front of your base and then make a run at the enemy base with an uber medic, you may find yourself out of chain gun ammo immediatly upon entering the base or at worst; right as you go uber.

So know when to quit. You aren't a never-ending killing machine, but you are very indestructable.

Now let's look at your weaponry.

Chain Gun

The chain gun is your primary weapon and is insanely deadly.

200 rounds of death with no reloading. The only negative is it takes time to fire; however, holding down the right trigger will keep it primed and ready to fire. This makes you walk slower, but once you get the hang of it that won't be to big of a negative any more.

The "primed" chain gun also gives away your location because it makes noise. But again, this can be a positive depending on your outlook; more people to kill!

Even at long range the chain gun does respectable damage, and at close range it will cut through a crowd of enemies. Remember the scene in Predator when Jesse Ventura uses a chain gun to cut down an entire forest? The same thing is true in Team Fortress; you can mow down an entire oncoming attack with the chain gun.

Don't just stand still either; you might think the slow walking right and left is silly since it as such a slow speed, but it does help.

Now that you know how to use your chain gun, let's look at your other gun...

The Shotgun

The shotgun is your secondary weapon. It is a fine secondary weapon, and works great if you want to do some more mobile combat since you can move "faster" (I use that term loosely as a Heavy Weapons Guy) with the shotgun than you can with the chain gun.

It functions the same way everyone elses shotgun does. Aim. Fire. Best at close range.

Most Heavy Weapons Guys stick to the Chain Gun or their melee weapon.

The Fists

The most popular melee weapon in Team Fortress; the fists.

The same way Marv in Sin City listed his mits as a weapon, the Heavy Weapons Guys go to battle with just their fists.

However unlike other melee weapons, the Heavy Weapons Guy Fists have combos!

Left click to punch with the left fist, right click to punch with the right fist, and you can get a critical hit as an uppercut!

You will often see HWGuys running around servers just punching people. One reason is most servers give you more points for a melee kill; some servers even give 3 points per melee kill. And also because it's just fun!
