Welcome to Team Fortress Tactics!
| Q | How do you spot a spy? |
| A | Shoot at them. Most servers have friendly fire turned off, so you won't be punished for it. Your teammates will fire back; it's common practice. However a spy cannot fire back because it will give away their disguise. If they don't fire back and run towards the flag room or spiral, or try to run in a direction that places them behind you; they are likely spies. Chase after them and shoot them. There are exceptions though; smart spies will disguise as demomen because demomen rarely answer spy checks. They have long reload times, limited ammo, etc. and it's just generally not worth a pipebomb. Then there are just flat out obvious ways; if you are a sniper and see someone on your team run off the enemies deck and towards your base, they are likely a spy. If you see them decloak; obviously. And then there is my favorite: when you see a spy with your name. |
| Q | Where are screenshots saved? |
| A | In the directory where you installed Team Fortress 2. It may have its own directory. For me, it is C:/Program Files/Steam/Graphics/ |
| Q | Where can I buy Team Fortress 2 without all the other stuff? |
| A | Through Steam. However, Team Fortress 2 alone is $59.99. The Orange Box, with Half Life 2, Half Life 2: Episode One, Half Life 2: Episode 2, Portal, and Team Fortress 2 is... $59.99. So yeah... I really don't understand the logic of buying it and not getting all of the other games for the same price. |
| Q | What server do you play on? |
| A | I usually stick to the MC Paradise server. No reason why. |
| Q | Are you in a clan? |
| A | In previous versions, I played under the [d2f] banner because I loved the Drippy's server. While many people take issue with it for a number of reasons, I enoyed the regular players there who all had personalities, and the fact that they gave the server itself a personality with the Ralphy character. For example when you said lol it would threaten you; you could kill enough people to earn pills and bribe Ralphy to dance, among other things, which would send the server into a craze; the dance effect made lights go crazy, the floor into an ice skating arena, and "Staying Alive" kind of music play. It was just a fun place. I currently have no affiliations on TF2. |
| Q | When I'm a spy and I backstab someone, will the disguise go away? |
| A | Yes; any attack made by the spy except SAPing will cause your disguise to go away. |
| Q | What if I'm cloaked? |
| A | You can't attack while cloaked. |
| Q | If an enemy medic heals a spy, does it have a healing effect? |
| A | Yep. |
| Q | If I am disguised, will enemy sentries attack me? |
| A | No. This is the entire reason spies have disguises. They are the answer to engineers. |
| Q | How do I change my in game name? |
| A | It's as easy as changing your Steam ID name. Go to Tools -> Options and it is right there. |
| Q | Does Team Fortress have upgrade systems like Battle Front, where you earn experience and unlock items for different classes? |
| A | No. Team Fortress has achievements, but it's pretty much what you see is what you get. |
| Q | How do I add an icon next to my name on the scoreboard? |
| A | Your name and your avatar are tied to your Steam Community ID; not Team Fortress. So login to Steam and go to your Steam ID page, and update it with an avatar. Next time you play Team Fortress, you will have your avatar next to your name on the scoreboards! |
| Q | How many people can play in each Team Fortress game? |
| A | 24. It used to be 32 during the beta, and hopefully Valve will change it back. |
| Q | How much hard drive space does Team Fortress 2 take? |
| A | 1.3 Gb. |
| Q | What does tc in tc_hydro stand for? |
| A | Territory Control. The others are Capture The Flag, Control Point and Area Denial. |
| Q | Why does the flamethrower sometimes have fire on it when I'm not firing? |
| A | It's a sign that your flamethrower has critical damage. The next time you fire, your flamethrower will be critical, so don't waste it. |
| Q | Are there really no grenades in TF2? |
| A | No grenades in TF2. Only the Demomans sticky bombs. |
| Q | Why does the soldier have grenades on him if he can't use them? |
| A | Because originally there were grenades in the game. |
| Q | Is the Pyro a boy or a girl? |
| A | The pyro is a male based on the audio the character has assigned to it. However, it could be a VERY masculine sounding female, like Nicole Bass. |
| Q | Are there any classes in Team Fortress 2 that weren't in previous incarnations of Team Fortress? |
| A | No. |
| Q | Are there any female classes in Team Fortress 2? |
| A | No. |
| Q | If I reinstall Steam or Team Fortress 2, will I lose my Progress Report stats? |
| A | No. The stats are tied to your Steam ID, which isn't connected to your physical copy of Steam but rather it is the other way around; your copy of steam accesses your Steam ID to see what you have access to and what you have done, and then you play the games you have access to. |
| Q | Is a critical hit when you hit someone in the head? |
| A | No. A critical hit is when your projectile is blue or red. It does much more damage. See the Team Fortress 2 weapons page for more details. |
| Q | Can I transfer my Steam achievements onto my XBL account? |
| A | No. The Steam achievements are for Steam only. |
| Q | How do you change your name? |
| A | While playing TF2, press Shift+Tab to bring up Steam, click on Settings in the bottom right then find the option to change your name. |
